Adidas signs cricketer Rohit Sharma as its brand ambassador
- German sportswear major Adidas has said that it has roped in cricketer Rohit Sharma to endorse its products.
- Sharma will join recently retired Sachin Tendulkar in a team of world class athletes who promote Adidas products.

Rohit Sharma iis a class act on the field an extremely talented batsman, a brilliant fielder and a natural leader. Besides being one of the leading run-scorers in ODIs this year, he has had a phenomenal start to his test career.
YES Bank to sponsor HIL
- YES Bank, India’s fourth largest private sector bank, has signed a multi-year deal with the Hockey India League (HIL) commencing with the 2014 season.
- In the inaugural season, 70 top domestic players including the Indian national side as well as 50 international players, who are part of the national squads of Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Netherlands, Germany, Malaysia, Spain, and Argentina, played for the five franchise teams.
- Of the 120 players who played in the inaugural Hero HIL, 60 were Olympians. The list includes winners of the FIH Player of the Year Award including Jamie Dwyer (2004, 2009, 2010, 2011), Teun de Nooijer (2003, 2005, 2006) and Moritz Fuerste (2012). Seven of the top 10 FIH rated players played in the HIL 2013.
- Six franchise teams will feature in the second season of the HIL to be held from January 25 to February 23. The league will be an opportunity for 144 leading players to showcase their skills in 34 matches at six different venues.
Urvashi Butalia not heading Tehelka committee
- Noted feminist and director of publishing house Zubaan Books Urvashi Butalia has refused to head Tehelka’s internal complaints committee set up to probe sexual assault allegations against its editor Tarun Tejpal, saying it was now not needed as the case was being investigated by police.
- In a letter to Tehelka’s Managing Editor Shoma Chaudhury, Butalia, Director of Zubaan Books publishing house, said she was recusing herself from heading the committee under the Vishakha guidelines.
- She was appointed by Tehelka to head its internal probe panel.
Narendra Modi makes it to Time's 'Person of the Year' shortlist
- Newsmaker BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is among Time magazine's shortlisted candidates for its 'Person of the Year' title and has emerged as an early favourite among the readers in an online poll.
- Time has shortlisted 42 global leaders, entrepreneurs and celebrities, including Narendra Modi, for its 'Person of the Year 2013' and will announce the winner next month.
- Other candidates in fray are Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, US President Barack Obama, Pakistani teenage education activist Malala Yousafzai, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden and even the new heir to the British throne Prince George.
- Narendra Modi is the only Indian in the shortlist.
