Centre likely to grant Bihar 'backward' status soon
- Bihar CM : Nitish Kumar
- Name of Nitish Kumar's Party : Janata Dal (United) party
Backward status for his state. Nitish Kumar has argued that altering criteria for backwardness will help reduce the burden of Rs 6,000-7,000 crore that Bihar has to bear annually by way of its share of central schemes and to pay back funds borrowed from the Centre.

Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (BHEL) has been awarded the DSII awards
for the fastest growing maharatna PSU. The Award was presented to B. Prasada
Rao Chairman & Managing Director, BHEL by Ajit Singh, Union Minister of
Civil Aviation.
National Tourism Awards
The President of India Pranb
Mukherjee, presented the National Tourism Awards in various categories at a
function at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Speaking on the occasion, the
President said that it would given an impetus and encourage all players in
the tourism sector.
