Health Minister releases report "The State of the World's Children 2021"

Children and young people in India could feel the impact of COVID-19 on their mental health and well-being for many years to come, UNICEF warned in its flagship report launched today by ShriMansukhMandaviya, Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Government of India and a panel of experts.

Children in India seem reticent to seek support for mental stress, according to a survey conducted by UNICEF and Gallup in early 2021 with 20,000 children and adults in 21 countries. Only 41 per cent of young people between 15 -24 years of age in India said that it is good to get support for mental health problems, compared to an average of 83 per cent for 21 countries. In fact, India was the only one of 21 countries where only a minority of young people felt that people experiencing mental health issues should reach out to others. In every other country, a majority of young people (ranging from 56 to 95 per cent) felt that reaching out was the best way to deal with mental health issues.
The survey findings, which are previewed in The State of the World’s Children 2021, also found that around 14 per cent of 15 to 24-year-olds in India, or 1 in 7, reported often feeling depressed or having little interest in doing things. The proportion ranged from almost one in three in Cameroon, one in seven in India and Bangladesh, to as low as one in ten in Ethiopia and Japan. Across 21 countries, the median was one in five young people.

The Romanian government fell after a vote of no confidence; PM Florin Situ resigns

India's first e-fish market app FishWale launched in Assam

An application, stated to be the country's first e-fish market app, was launched in Assam by state Fisheries Minister ParimalSuklabaidya.
The app, "Fishwaale", which will provide one-stop solution for aquaculture, will help both buyers and sellers to place orders and sell fish, aquaculture equipment and medicine, fish feed and fish seed online, the minister said.
The products will be available for both whole-sellers and retailers, a department official said.
Freshwater and seawater frozen fish, dry fish, fish pickles and processed fish products will also be available via the app which was developed by Aqua Blue Global Aquaculture Solutions Pvt Ltd in collaboration with the state fisheries department.
The minister exuded optimism that it will help members of the fish farming community get reasonable price for their produce and lead to elimination of middlemen.

DigiSaksham Program launched

Union Labour and Employment Minister BhupenderYadav on Thursday launched DigiSaksham, a digital skills programme to enhance the employability of youth by imparting digital skills that are required in an increasingly technology driven era.
This joint initiative with Microsoft india is an extension of the government's ongoing programmes to support the youth from rural and semi-urban areas, a labour ministry statement said.
Through DigiSaksham initiative, free of cost training in digital skills including basic skills as well as advance computing will be provided to more than 3 lakh youths in the first year.
Jobseekers can access the training through National Career Service (NCS) Portal.
The initiative gives priority to the job-seekers of semi urban areas belonging to disadvantaged communities, including those who have lost their jobs due to Covid-19 pandemic.

ISSF Junior Championship: AishwaryaPratap Singh Tomar wins gold

Young Indian shooter AishwaryPratap Singh Tomar smashed the world record in the final to win gold in the men's 50m rifle 3 positions event at the ISSF junior world championships here.

Earlier in the day, India's 14-year-old shooter NaamyaKapoor fired her way to the gold medal ahead of celebrated compatriot Manu Bhaker in the women's 25m pistol event.
Kapoor shot 36 in the final to claim the top prize ahead of France's Camille Jedrzejewski (33) and 19-year-old Olympian Bhakar (31), who has already won three gold so far in the tournament.
Bhaker settled for the bronze after the French markswoman prevailed in a shoot-off on Monday.
Another Indian shooter in the women's final, Rhythm Sangwan, finished fourth as the country dominated the event.
