Delhi HC refuses to give interim relief to Google

The Delhi high court on Friday refused to grant interim relief to Google against further media leaks of “confidential” business information.
The judge posted the matter for Monday after noting that the September 8 order of the CCI was not on record and she would need to read it before passing any orders.
The court was hearing a plea by Google against the leak of sensitive information including revenue, payments made to partners, key agreements with phone makers, and market shares to the press from an ongoing investigation by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) into its agreements with phone companies using its Android OS.
The company’s plea came after details of the investigation by CCI’s Director general (DG) were reported in some sections of the media. The reports said Google was guilty of abusing its dominant position with Android to stifle competition to its Play Store.
Justice RekhaPalli expressed displeasure after a submission by Additional Solicitor General (ASG) N Venkatraman who said that one Google official wrote to the CCI Chairperson threatening legal action against “those who may have facilitated the unlawful release of the DG report”.
“Advise your client. Just because he is there… he should know that if you want to function in a country, he has to know the law. I don’t appreciate this... If he felt so strongly, he should have addressed the letter to the registrar (of CCI),” Justice Palli told Google’s counsel while posting the matter for September 27.
On Thursday, Google moved the high court seeking an ex-parte injunction directing CCI to ensure that there is no further publication of any part of the DG report.

G4 nations seek reforms in UNSC

The foreign ministers of G4 countries – India, Brazil, Germany and Japan have underlined the urgency of reforming the United Nations Security Council in order to make it more legitimate, effective and representative.
The Foreign Ministers of the G4 countries – India’s S Jaishankar, Brazil’s Carlos Alberto Franco Ranca, Germany’s Heiko Maas, and Japan’s ToshimitsuMotegi met on the sidelines of United Nations General Assembly in New York Wednesday night.
The ministers issued a joint statement following the meeting in which they reaffirmed that it is indispensable to reform the Security Council through an expansion of both categories, permanent and non-permanent seats, to enable the Security Council to better deal with the ever-complex and evolving challenges to the maintenance of international peace and security, and thereby to carry out its duties more effectively.

Shipping Minister Sonowal to inaugurate and lay foundation stone of three projects at New Mangalore Port

Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways SarbanandaSonowal will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of three projects at New Mangalore Port on Sept. 24. These include laying of the foundation stone for a truck parking terminal and modification of U.S. Mallya Gate, and dedication to the nation of the newly built business development center.
Due to improved hinterland connectivity, the container and other general cargo traffic is increasing at this Port. Around 500 trucks are moving to and fro daily for evacuation of cargo from New Mangalore Port to distant places outside Dakshin Kannada district and Karnataka state. Though the Port has provided parking facilities for about 160 trucks, the existing area is found to be insufficient. Hard surface truck parking terminal has been completed for an area 16000 m2 at the cost of Rs 2 crore. Additional truck parking area of 17000 m2 would be developed at cost of Rs 1.9 crore. The Truck Terminal would be provided concrete pavement, gatehouse, restaurant, and dormitory at the project cost of Rs.5.00 crores in 2022-23.
The East gate of the New Mangalore Port Trust is called U.S. Mallya Gate, named after the founder of the Port. It faces NH-66. The proposed modification of the gate complex have dimensions of 46.6 Mtrs. Length and 13.5 Mtrs. The gate complex has different lanes for movement of trucks, four wheeler passenger vehicles, two wheelers, pedestrians, provisions of RFID system, radiological monitoring equipment, boom barriers, etc. The cost of modification work is Rs 3.22 crore. The work is likely to be completed by March 2022.
The Business Development Centre and Testing Centre are built on an area of 2.80 acres on western side of NH 66 adjacent to the IOC retail outlet. The Business Development Centre is a Stilt + Ground + Three storey building with a total carpet area of 6300 Sqm and 1200 m2 test centre building. The project cost of construction of Business Development Centre for Export and Testing Centre is Rs 24.57 crore. The Business Development Centre shall have a conference hall, restaurant, post office, banks, etc. It will provide all facilities under one roof to the EXIM trade fraternity.

Study probes how ejections from Sun’s corona influence space weather predictions crucial for monitoring satellites

A recent study has shown how conditions and events in the solar atmosphere like coronal mass ejections influence the accuracy of space weather prediction, which is crucial for the health of our satellites.
This understanding will aid the interpretation of data from the upcoming Aditya-L1, India's first solar mission.
Space weather refers to the conditions in the solar wind and near-Earth space, which can adversely affect the performance of space-borne and ground-based technological systems. The space weather near the Earth is mainly due to Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs), which are frequent explosive expulsions of huge magnetized plasma from the Sun into its surroundings, which can blow past the Earth. Example of space weather events is the geomagnetic storm, a perturbation in the Earth’s magnetic field, which can last for few hours to few days. Understanding of how events in the solar atmosphere influence space weather is necessary for monitoring and maintaining our satellites.
In the present work, astronomers led by Dr. Wageesh Mishra of the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Bengaluru, an autonomous institute of the Department of Science & Technology, Govt. Of India showed that plasma properties and Earth arrival times of CMEs from the Sun can vary substantially with longitudinal locations in the interplanetary space. This research is published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomy journal and is co-authored by Kunjal Dave from C.U. Shah University, Gujarat, Prof. NanditaSrivastava from Physical Research Laboratory, Udaipur, and Prof. Luca Teriaca from the Max Planck Institute of for the Solar System Research, Germany.

Bhavani Devi: Queen of Swords

Bhavani Devi heralded a new chapter in the Indian sports history when she became the first Indian ever to qualify for fencing competition in Olympics.
She reached another milestone through her historic win at the Tokyo Olympics, becoming the first Indian to win a match in fencing in an Olympic event.
Although she was knocked out of the medal race in her second match only, her memorable performance at the world’s biggest sporting event was enough to make every Indian proud.
Hailing from Tamil Nadu, Bhavani’s journey to become a fencer is quite interesting. In 2003, while enrolling for school sports, Bhavani got late and had not much choice while choosing a sport since seats for all other sports had been filled.
