The Union Cabinet approved continuation of 1,023 fast track special courts, including 389 exclusive POCSO courts, as a centrally sponsored scheme for another two years.
Responding to a question during a Cabinet briefing, Union minister Anurag Thakur said out of 31 states and union territories, 28 have started the scheme.
West Bengal is one of the states which has not started the scheme, he pointed out, adding "We are hopeful they will start it soon."
The scheme would continue from April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2023 with an outlay of Rs 1572.86 crore -- Rs 971.70 crore as central share and Rs 601.16 crore as state share, an official statement said.
The central share is to be funded from 'Nirbhaya' Fund.
The scheme was launched on October 2, 2019.

• Wildfires continued to torment the Mediterranean as well as the western part of the US, as authorities in Greece, Turkey and California scrambled to protect their civilians and property from further damage.
Fire crews across Greece struggled amid a record heat wave to contain new blazes, including one near the birthplace of the ancient Olympic Games - Olympia. Temperatures in parts of Greece reached 45 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, in what authorities describe as the worst heat wave since 1987. No deaths or severe injuries have been reported from any of the Greek wildfires.
In Turkey, firefighters were battling 16 wildfires across the country on Wednesday, including one near a coal-fired power station, with high temperatures, low humidity and strong winds fanning the flames.
In the past eight days, 167 fires have been brought under control, forestry minister BekirPakdemirli said.
Meanwhile, wildfires have already produced a record amount of carbon emissions in Russia’s Siberian region of Yakutia, with still more weeks of the fire season to come, according to the European Union’s Copernicus satellite monitoring unit.

With the passage in RajyaSabha, Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India (Amendment) Bill, 2021 got approval of both houses of Parliament today.Earlier, on July 29, the Bill was passed in the LokSabha.
After the bill got passed in Parliament today, ShriJyotiraditya M. Scindia thanked the MPs for their valuable feedback and support to the bill and he said, “This will prove to be a catalyst in the development of small airports and help enhance air connectivity in far-flung areas.”
The bill allows tariff determination of a 'group of airports' by way of amending the definition of 'major airport.' The bill amends the provisions of the law in relation to tariffs for single airports. The intention of the government is to develop not only the high traffic volume & profitable airports but also the low traffic volume of non-profitable airports.
The revenue earned by AAI from these airports will be utilized for the development of airports in Tier-II and Tier-III cities. It would help encourage the development of smaller airports. This approach would help in the development of more airports through the PPP route thus, expanding the air connectivity to relatively remote and far-flung areas.

India’s first indigenously designed and built aircraft carrier began its sea trials off the coast of Kochi on Wednesday, propelling India into a select group of countries to achieve the capability to build its own aircraft carriers.
Describing it as a “proud and historic day for India", the Indian Navy in a statement said, “Reincarnated Vikrant (IAC) sailed for her maiden sea trials today (Wednesday), in the 50th year of her illustrious predecessor’s key role in victory in the 1971 war." The reference was to third war between India and Pakistan that led to the emergence of Bangladesh as an independent country.
According to the Navy, the Indigenous Aircraft Carrier (IAC) is the “largest and most complex warship ever to be designed and built in India." The achievement, it said, was key for India’s “quest for Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives".
The keel of the 40,000-tonne warship was laid in February 2009. The ship has been built by the Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL). The basin trials were completed in November 2020. The project cost is estimated at almost ₹23,000 crore.
