Innovations are important to create new opportunities in agriculture

  • The Prime Minister called for novelty and modernization in all fields of life, otherwise it becomes a burden at times.
  • In this context, he said that modernization in the field of Indian agriculture is the need of the hour. MrModi said, adopting new alternatives, new innovations, along with traditional farming, are equally important to create new opportunities for employment in the agriculture sector and to increase the income of farmers. He said the country has experienced it during the white revolution and now bee farming is emerging as a similar alternative.
  • The Prime Minister told how bee farming is becoming the foundation of a honey revolution or sweet revolution in the country. He cited the example of a village Gurdum in Darjeeling, West Bengal where despite steep mountains and geographical problems , people have  started honey bee farming. Today there is a sizable demand for honey harvested at this place. It is also increasing the income of farmers.
  • The Prime Minister said, the natural organic honey of the Sundarbans areas of West Bengal is in great demand in the country and the world. The farmers of Banaskantha in Gujarat and Yamuna Nagar in Haryana are earning lakhs of rupees annually through honey. The hard work of farmers has led to a rise in honey production. Every year nearly 1.25 lakh tons of honey is produced and a large quantity of honey is also being exported to foreign countries.

Made in India COVID19 vaccines land in Denmark for UN Peacekeeping personnel

  • Made in India Covid-19 vaccines today landed in Denmark for UN Peacekeeping personnel.  A gift of 2 lakh COVID19 vaccine doses from India was shipped to Denmark.
  • Under-Secretary-General for UN Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix said, India is a longstanding and steadfast supporter of UN Peacekeeping. Thanking the Government and people of India, he said, they have generously donated COVID19 vaccines to benefit the peacekeeping personnel and enable them to continue their life-saving work in a safe manner.
  • UN Department of Operational Support Under Secretary General AtulKhare said, this important donation will allow us to ensure that UN peacekeepers are able to remain healthy and deliver in some of the most difficult environments in the world.
  • United Nation Resident Coordinator India, RenataDessallien said, the UN warmly thanks India for this generous gesture of solidarity and support, reflecting India's strong commitment to multilateralism, to global peace, United Nations in particular.

::ECONOMY::

India launches auctions for 2nd Tranche of commercial coal mining

  • India launched its 2nd Tranche of auction for commercial coal mining offering 67 mines for sale of coal. This is the highest number of mines on offer in a particular tranche of auction after commencement of the auction regime since 2014.
  • Union Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi launched the auction process in a programme held in New Delhi.
  • Amitabh Kant, CEO NITI Aayog and Anil Kumar Jain, Secretary (Coal) were also present in the function.
  • Out of the total 67 mines offered by the Ministry of Coal, 23 mines are under CM(SP) Act and 44 under MMDR Act.
  • The coal mines on offer are a mix of mines with small and large reserves, coking and non-coking mines and fully and partially explored mines spread across 06 States Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh.
  • “We are making coal the driver of economic activities in the country. There are huge opportunities that the Indian coal sector is offering.
  • Therefore, I invite investors to come and be a part of vastly untapped coal reserves in the country. Grow your businesses and take India along on the growth course,” Joshi said while launching the auction process.
  • “Commercial coal mining will bring in new investments, create huge employment opportunities and boost socio-economic development in coal-bearing states. A market-based coal economy will help the nation become Aatmanirbhar in coal.” Joshi added.
  • The Coal Minister also said looking at the past success, the government is moving towards adopting a ‘Rolling Auction’ mechanism for conducting future auctions. Coal is the first mineral resource where Rolling Auction mechanism is being implemented in which a pool of coal blocks will always remain available for auctions.

Pak successfully test fires nuclear-capable ballistic missile Shaheen 1-A

  • Pakistan on Friday successfully test-fired a nuclear-capable surface-to-surface ballistic missile with a range of 900 kilometres, the Army said.
  • The test of Shaheen-1A surface to surface ballistic missile, was aimed at re-validating various design and technical parameters of the weapon system including advanced navigation system, the media wing of the Pakistani army - the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said in a statement.
  • The Army's media wing said that the missile has a range of 900 kilometers. Shaheen 1-A with its sophisticated and advanced guidance system is a highly accurate missile system.
  • The launch was witnessed by senior officials from Strategic Plans Division, strategic forces, scientists and engineers of strategic organisations.

::SPORTS::

India tops the medals tally with 15 gold, 9 silver& 6 bronze in ISSF Shooting World Cup

  • In Shooting, the Indian contingent brought the curtains down on a highly successful ISSF World Cup with the women and men's teams clinching gold medals in the Trap events.
  • The Indian trio of Shreyasi Singh, ManishaKeer and RajeshwariKumari won the gold medal in the women's Trap Team event. India outgunned the Kazakhstan trio 6-0 in the final to give the hosts their 14th gold medal.
  • In the men's Trap Team event, KynanChenai, PrithvirajTondaiman and Lakshay beat the Slovakian team in the gold medal match to make it 30 medals for India in the shooting World Cup. India topped the medals tally with a whopping 30 medals in total - 15 gold, 9 silver and 6 bronze.
