strengthening India’s population policy and family planning programme. The
Aayog has partnered with the Population Foundation of India to bring the
best minds together for discussion.
- The proposals will form part of the NITI Aayog working paper that will
outline the roadmap to help achieve India’s vision of attaining population
stabilization, as voiced by Prime Minister NarendraModi in his Independence
Day speech this year.

agency to use contraception.
Govt. decides not to hurry on signing FTA’s
- Commerce and industry minister PiyushGoyal on Tuesday said that India
will not sign any free trade agreement (FTA) in a hurry or to the
disadvantage of industry and exporters.
- Referring to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP)
trade agreement, which India opted out of last month after negotiating it
for seven years, Goyal said it had been reduced to an India-China FTA which
nobody wants.
- The minister also said walking out of RCEP does not mean that India does
not want to be a part of the global value chain. “But are the global value
chains only in China...global value chains are across the world,” he said,
and stressed “lets first prepare our industry” and empower those who want to
be part of the global chain.
- He said industry should focus on becoming part of value chain with
Europe, the US, ASEAN nations, Japan and Korea, among others. Goyal said
that Indian business and industry have been put to disadvantage over the
years and instead of addressing some of the real issues that industries
face, more and more distress was caused to them.

India successfully test fires upgraded version of Pinaka guided missile
system
- India had successfully test-fired two missiles from Chandipur in Odisha
yesterday. The upgraded version of Pinaka guided rocket system was
test-fired from the DRDO’s Proof and Experimental Establishment firing test
range while the all-weather tracked-chassis Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air
Missile (QR-SAM) tested from a mobile launcher at a launch complex of the
Integrated Test Range.
- AIR correspondent reports that the indigenously developed Pinaka and QR-SAM
weapon system test achieved the desired accuracy by hitting the intended
target with a high degree of precision and met all mission objectives.
- Pinaka system has a maximum range of 75 km for Mark-II variant and can
fire a salvo of 12 rockets in less than 45 seconds.
- QR-SAM system can also engage multiple targets within a range of around
25 to 30 km with two vehicle configurations for area air defence.
- The specificity of QR-SAM missile is that it intended to defend Army
formations operating in plains and semi-desert areas, including those enemy
missiles that suddenly appear at close range. The successful test of
missiles will boost India to strengthen its security position.
