- Charles Correa, a contemporary architect, whose repertoire includes the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial in Ahmedabad and the assembly of Madhya Pradesh died after a brief illness in Mumbai on Tuesday.
Indian launches Urdu mobile app for Haj pilgrims

An Indian scholar has launched an Urdu mobile application for smartphone users which provides information related to Haj and Umrah pilgrimages in Saudi Arabia.

Najeeb Qasmi said the app is in unicode format which allows users to copy and share any information related to Haj and Umrah pilgrimages through mobile messaging service WhatsApp, Facebook, e-mail and mobile SMS.

It is estimated that the number of smartphone users will be around 700 million in India alone by 2019," he added.
AIBA names ad hoc body to reorganize boxing in India

The International Boxing Association has formed a five-member committee to organize a new governing body for India following administrative wrangling in the national federation.

AIBA president Ching-Kuo Wu said its India representative Kishen Narsi will chair the committee, which includes Boxing India secretary general Jay Kowli, former tennis player Manisha Malhotra, and government official Injeti Srinivas. A fifth member will be announced later.

International Olympic Committee honorary member Randhir Singh will be an adviser to the panel.

The Indian Boxing Federation was suspended in December 2012 for not following proper election procedures and making Abhay Chautala the chairman. Boxing India was recognized by AIBA last year but not by the Indian Olympic Association, where Chautala apparently wields influence.
