::NATIONAL::

India airlifted 110 stranded Indian nationals and Afghan nationals from Kabul in Operation Devi Shakti

  • A special flight arrived at Delhi Airport from Kabul in Afghanistan yesterday carrying 110 stranded persons. The special Kam Air flight was arranged by India under Operation Devi Shakti. The External Affairs Ministry said, the flight brought 10 Indians and 94 Afghans including members of the Afghan Hindu-Sikh minority community. Nine children including three infants are among the evacuees. 
  • Three holy Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji from historical Gurudwaras in Afghanistan and ancient Hindu religious scriptures including Ramayan, Mahabharat and Bhagavad Gita were also brought to India by the flight.
  • Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and BJP Chief JP Nadda carried the Guru Granth Sahib which was brought by a Sikh delegation from historical Gurdwaras in Afghanistan.
  • Talking to the media, before the departure of the flight from Kabul, one of the evacuees thanked the Indian Government for ensuring safe evacuation.
  • Indian World Forum has thanked Prime Minister NarendraModi for ensuring safe and smooth passage for the passengers. Sikh delegation has also expressed happiness saying that they are returning to their homes with the help of the Indian Government.
  • The Government of India has evacuated more than 565 Indian nationals from the Afghanistan so far.

::INTERNATIONAL::

UNGA grants observer status to International Solar Alliance

  • The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has granted Observer Status to International Solar Alliance (ISA), India's Permanent Ambassador to United Nations, T S Tirumurti announced on Thursday (local time).
  • Terming this as a historic decision, Tirumurti said that ISA has become an example of positive global climate action through partnerships to benefit global energy growth and development.
  • "Historic decision by UN General Assembly today to grant Observer Status to International Solar Alliance. In 6 years, International Solar Alliance has become an example of positive global climate action through partnerships to benefit global energy growth and development. Thank all Member States," Tirumurti tweeted.
  • The fourth general assembly of the International Solar Alliance (ISA), was held earlier in October.
  • The launch of the ISA was announced by Prime Minister NarendraModi, and former French President Francois Hollande in November 2015, at the 21st session of the UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties in Paris, France.

Airtel and Invest India launch 'Startup Innovation Challenge'

  • BhartiAirtel (“Airtel”), India’s premier communications solutions provider, today announced the launch of ‘Airtel India Startup Innovation Challenge in partnership with Invest India.
  • As part of the ‘Startup Innovation Challenge’ early stage technology companies are invited to demonstrate differentiated solutions in the following areas –
  • 5G – Innovative B2C or B2B use cases and applications that can leverage high speed and low latency 5G technology.
  • IoT - Creating innovative IoT solutions that can power the digital transformation journey of enterprises.
  • Cloud Communication – Leveraging AI and ML technologies to create B2C or B2B products that can improve customer engagement and experience.
  • Digital Advertising – Creating innovative and unique ad formats – both digital and otherwise that would make ads or brand promotions an enriching experience for the end customer.
  • Digital Entertainment – Creating a platform or offering disruptive solutions in music, video or gaming that can support the growth of India’s content creator economy.

::SCIENCE AND TECH::

India to launch deep ocean mission by 2024

  • India will send its first-ever manned mission into the deep sea in 2024 after sending crewed missions into space in 2023.  Minister of state for science and technology Jitendra Singh said on Saturday three scientists will be sent at a depth of 5,000 metres (5 kilometres) in the sea to find hidden mineral deposits.
  • The mission, which has been called Samudrayan, was launched by the Centre in October this year.
  • "With the launch of this Unique Ocean Mission, India joins the elite club of nations such as the USA, Russia, Japan, France and China to have such underwater vehicles for carrying out subsea activities," Singh said at the launch event in Chennai on October 30.
  • Samudrayan has been undertaken by the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT). It will be a part of the Deep Ocean Mission, which will be implemented at a total budget ₹4,077 crore for five years.
  • The preliminary design of the manned submersible MATSYA 6000 under the Samudrayanproject, has already been completed.

::SPORTS::

India won 41 medals in Asian Youth Para Games 2021

  • The Indian contingent returned with 41 medals which includes 12 gold, 15 silver, and 14 bronze. This was India's best-ever showing at the continental Para youth games.
  • Athletics yielded the most medals for India, as 22 players returned with a podium finish. Out of 22 medals, eight players won gold, six silver, and eight clinched bronze.
  • While the Indian badminton contingent finished the campaign with fifteen medals against their name.
