National Armed Forces Flag Day
- Over the years, it has become a tradition to commemorate this day as an honour to the soldiers, sailors and airmen of India. The funds collected on the Armed Forces Flag Day are also used for the welfare of serving personnel and ex-servicemen and also to rehabilitate battle casualties. On this day, in return for donations, small flags are also distributed.
- Armed Forces Flag Day is celebrated on December 7, every year in India.
- It has an objective to collect the funds from people for the betterment of the Armed Forces Staff by selling Indian flags, batches, stickers and other items.
- A committee was set up on August 28, 1949, under the then Defense Minister of India. The committee decided to observe a Flag Day annually on December 7.
- This day is observed mainly to distribute flags to people and collect funds from them.
- People across the country distribute small flags and car flags in red, deep blue and light blue colours representing the three services in return for funds.
- The Armed Forces Flag Day commemoration and the collection of funds through the distribution of flags.
- People express their gratitude and appreciation to the current and veteran military personnel of India and acknowledge those who died in service to the country.
- The main purpose of observing flag day is mainly rehabilitation of battle casualties, the welfare of serving personnel and their families, resettlement and welfare of ex-servicemen and their families.
- All three branches of the Indian armed forces, The Indian Army, The Indian Air Forces and The Navy, arrange a variety of shows, carnivals, dramas and other entertainment programs to showcase to the general public the efforts of their personnel to ensure national security.

China gives doles to motivate couples to have 3 children
- China’s national legislature, the National People’s Congress (NPC), had formally endorsed the three-child policy in August, in a major policy shift to address the deepening demographic crisis in the country.
- Chinese provinces have started announcing a slew of supportive measures, including childbearing subsidies and tax cuts, to motivate couples to have three children to prevent a steep decline in the birth rates in the world's most populous country.
- China’s national legislature, the National People’s Congress (NPC), had formally endorsed the three-child policy in August, in a major policy shift to address the deepening demographic crisis in the country.
- It passed a revised Population and Family Planning Law, which allows Chinese couples to have three children, in an apparent attempt to address the reluctance of the Chinese couples to have more kids due to mounting costs.
- Localities including Beijing, Sichuan and Jiangxi have rolled out supportive measures highlighting increased leave for couples, such as offering parental leave, extending maternity leave and marriage leave, and increasing paternity leave, state-run Xinhua news agency reported on Monday.
- "Government should play a leading role in sharing the cost of childbearing," National Health Commission official Yang Wenzhuang said, calling for more supportive measures in nursery services, childbearing subsidies and tax cuts.

PM Modi inaugurates Thought Leadership Forum on Fintech 'Infinity Forum'
- Prime Minister NarendraModi said that India has proved to the world that it is second to none when it comes to adopting technology or innovating around it. He said, transformational initiatives under Digital India have opened doors for innovative Fintech solutions to be applied in governance.
- Prime Minister NarendraModi today inaugurated InFinity Forum through video conferencing. The event is being hosted by International Financial Services Centres Authority under the aegis of Government of India in collaboration with GIFT City and Bloomberg. Indonesia, South Africa and the U.K. are partner countries in the first edition of the Forum.
- Highlighting the importance of fintech, Mr. Modi said, fintech has immense oportunity in the country and now it is a time to convert these fintech initiatives into a fintech revolution. He said, this revolution will help to achieve financial empowerment of every single citizen of the country.
- He said, India’s digital public infrastructure solutions can improve the lives of citizens around the world. Mr. Modi said, mobile payments exceeded ATM cash withdrawals for the first time last year in the country and fully digital banks have become a reality and may become commonplace in less than a decade.
- Terming the GIFT City a gateway to the global fintech world, the Prime Minister said, it is not merely a premise, it represents India. He said, it represents India’s democratic values, demand, demography and diversity. He said, it also represents India’s openness to ideas, innovation and investment.
- AIR correspondent reports that this two-day event is a thought leadership forum with a focus on aspects relating to FinTech and using it for inclusive growth. InFinity Forum has an interesting theme ‘Beyond.’ As the name suggests, it will set the tone for stakeholders to think beyond conventional mindsets and approaches and discuss new trends in SpaceTech, GreenTech, AgriTech, quantum computing and more.

Picked for Nasa’s astronaut class, Indian origin Anil Menon is with SpaceX too
- Nasa-turned-SpaceX flight surgeon Anil Menon is among the 10 latest trainee astronauts who will join the 2021 class of the American space agency as it plans for the first human missions to the moon in more than 50 years.
- Apart from Anil Menon, a firefighter turned Harvard professor, a former member of the national cycle team and a pilot who led the first-ever all-woman F-22 formation in combat have been picked by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration for its new astronaut candidate class in four years.
- They were chosen among the more than 12,000 applicants and will now report for duty in January at the Johnson Space Center in Texas, where they will undergo two years of training.
- Born to Indian and Ukrainian parents and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Menon is a lieutenant colonel in the US air force and was SpaceX’s first flight surgeon.
- He served Nasa as the crew flight surgeon for various expeditions on the International Space Station (ISS). Menon started as a Nasa flight surgeon in 2014 and supported four long-duration crew members on ISS as the deputy crew surgeon for Soyuz missions Soyuz 39 and Soyuz 43 and prime crew surgeon for Soyuz 52.
- Menon is an actively practising emergency medicine physician with fellowship training in wilderness and aerospace medicine. He was the first responder during the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, the 2015 earthquake in Nepal and the 2011 Reno Air Show accident, according to his profile on the Nasa website.
- He graduated in neurobiology from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1999 and got his master’s degree in mechanical engineering from California’s Stanford University in 2004. He has a doctor of medicine as well from Stanford Medical School.
