MoWCD launches 'StreeManoraksha' project

  • The Ministry of Women and Child Development (MoWCD) on Wednesday launched the ‘StreeManoraksha Project’ in collaboration with NIMHANS Bengaluru with an aim to improve the mental health of women in India.
  • The project would focus on building on capacity building of OSC (One-Stop Center) functionaries on the tools and techniques as to how to handle the cases of women approaching the One-Stop Centres, particularly the women who have suffered violence and distress with due sensitivity and care.
  • Dr. Prabha, Head of NIMHANS said that the One-Stop Center has done an excellent job during the COVID period. At present, more than 700 One-Stop Centers are being run in the country. The people working in these one-stop centres will also be trained to operate the Self Defense Shaheed Women Helpline properly and counsel them properly.

::INTERNATIONAL::

US, EU, UK decide to remove select Russian banks from SWIFT

  • The U.S., European allies and Canada agreed Saturday to remove key Russian banks from the interbank messaging system, SWIFT, an extraordinary step that will sever the country from much of the global financial system.
  • “This will ensure that these banks are disconnected from the international financial system and harm their ability to operate globally,” the global powers wrote in a joint statement announcing the significant retaliatory measure.
  • Moscow’s exclusion from SWIFT, which stands for the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication, means Russian banks won’t be able to communicate securely with banks beyond its borders. 
  • Iran was removed from SWIFT in 2014 following developments to Tehran’s nuclear program.

Google and MeitY to train 100 Indian startups under Appscale Academy program

  • In 2021, time spent by users outside India on apps and games created by Indian companies grew by 150 per cent compared to 2019 on Google Play, a sign of the potential and opportunity Indian startups and developers today have to drive app and game innovations for the world. 
  • Aiming to help India’s next generation of innovators unlock this growth opportunity, MeitY Startup Hub, an initiative of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and Google today announced a cohort of 100 Indian early to mid-stage startups it aims to help build high-quality global apps and games as part of the Appscale Academy.
  • A growth and development program by MeitY Startup Hub and Google, the goal of the Appscale Academy is to identify, and support promising Indian startups and help them grow into successful global businesses. The 100 startups were chosen from over 400 applications following an in-depth selection process that took into account their creative ideas and innovation, product quality, product scalability, and talent diversity.
  • Bhuvnesh Kumar, joint secretary, MeitY, added, "Startups and developers are key drivers of India’s digital transformation journey. We are seeing them drive meaningful solutions for India and the world. We at MeitY value our partnership with Google, and it gives me immense delight to further boost this spirit of innovation with the Appscale Academy Program.”

Electronics and IT Minister inaugurates Tech Conclave 2022

  • National Informatics Centre (NIC) organized the #TechConclave2022 focused on Emerging Technologies applicable especially in e-Governance, with the theme – “Next Gen Technologies for Digital Government”. The event was attended by Shri K. Rajaraman, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Dr. Rajendra Kumar, Additional Secretary, MeitY, Dr. Neeta Verma, Director General, NIC,along with other dignitaries from Centre and State Governments.
  • Addressing the event, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that NIC plays an important role in bringing technology into Government & Governance. He further added that anticipating planning for the future of Technology for the Government, is embedded in the DNA of NIC.
  • Shri K. Rajaraman, Secretary, MeitY congratulated NIC for its innovative products and said that the Conclave is going to serve as an opportunity to devise innovative ways of working, new things that can be done for the citizens. He also congratulated NIC Team for its transformative flagship product, eOffice.
  • Dr. Rajendra Kumar, Additional Secretary, MeitY during his address said that the continuous efforts of MeitY and NIC in building larger platforms which aim at changing the entire paradigm of Digital Government, and making the services seamless, easily accessible, improve the ease of living and doing business, will yield results in the time to come.

ICC Women's World Cup New Zealand 2022 begins

  • The International Cricket Council's Women's Cricket World Cup begins on March 04, 2022, with hosts New Zealand taking on West Indies in the opener. This would be the 12th edition of the quadrennial showpiece event with New Zealand hosting its third tournament. Before the tournament finally begins, here is a quick look at the format, teams and their squads, schedule, venues, prize money and all things one must know regarding the Women's World Cup 2022.
  • The 2022 edition of the Women's World Cup also called the Women's ODI World Cup will be contested between eight teams all of whom will play each other once in a league format which will be Round-Robin. This means that each team will play the other only once. And at the end of the Round-Robin league, the top four teams on the Points Table will move into the semi-finals.
