Appointment of new governors

  • President Ram NathKovind on Tuesday appointed several Governors across the country, with ThawarchandGehlot to take over as the next Governor of Karnataka.
  • Gehlot is currently the Cabinet Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment in India.
  • While many were transferred, several others were new appointees.
  • HariBabuKambhampati has been appointed as Governor of Mizoram, MangubhaiChhaganbhai Patel as Governor of Madhya Pradesh, and RajendraVishwanathArlekar as Governor of Himachal Pradesh.
  • “Mizoram Governor PS SreedharanPillai has been transferred to Goa, Haryana Governor Satyadev Narayan Arya appointed as Tripura Governor, Tripura Governor Ramesh Bais appointed as Jharkhand Governor, and Himachal Pradesh Governor BandaruDattatraya appointed as Haryana Governor,” according to a RashtrapatiBhavancommunique.

Tropical Storm Elsa lashing Florida Keys, to strengthen slowly

  • The weather was getting worse in southern Florida on Tuesday morning as Tropical Storm Elsa began lashing the Florida Keys, complicating the search for survivors in the condo collapse and prompting a hurricane watch for the peninsula's upper Gulf Coast.
  • In addition to damaging winds and heavy rains, the Miami-based US National Hurricane Center warned of life-threatening storm surges, flooding and isolated tornadoes. A hurricane watch was issued for a long stretch of coastline, from Egmont Key at the mouth of Tampa Bay to the Steinhatchee River in Florida's Big Bend area.
  • Bands of rain were expected to reach Surfside on Florida's Atlantic coast, soaking the rubble of the Champlain Towers South, which collapsed June 24, killing at least 32 people. Search and rescue crews have worked through rain more than 100 others listed as missing, but must pause when lightning threatens, and a garage area in the pancaked debris already filled with water Monday, officials said.
  • Elsa’s maximum sustained winds strengthened to 60 mph (95 kph) early Tuesday. A slow strengthening is forecast through Tuesday night and Elsa could be near hurricane strength before it makes landfall in Florida. Its core was about 50 miles (80 kilometers) southwest of Key West, Florida, and 270 miles (435 kilometers) south of Tampa. It was continuing to move to the north-northwest at 12 mph (19 kph).
  • The forecast included the possibility of tornadoes across South Florida on Tuesday morning and across the upper peninsula later in the day.
  • Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis expanded a state of emergency to cover a dozen counties where Elsa was expected to make a swift passage Wednesday, and President Joe Biden approved an emergency declaration for the state ahead of the storm.

MSME Minister Nitin Gadkari becomes “Brand Ambassador” of Khadi Prakrit Paint 

  • Minister for Road Transport and Highways & MSME Shri Nitin Gadkari declared himself the “Brand Ambassador '' of KhadiPrakritk Paint and said he would promote it across the country so as to encourage young entrepreneurs to take up the manufacturing of cow dung paint.Virtually inaugurating the new automated manufacturing unit of KhadiPrakritik Paint, India's first and only paint made from cow dung, in Jaipur todaythe minister appreciated the technology innovation and said this would go a long way in empowering the rural and agro-based economy in the country.
  • ShriGadkari said even inaugurating infrastructure projects worth lakhs of crores of rupees is not as pleasing and satisfying as inaugurating this manufacturing unit. He appreciated Khadi and Village Industries Commission for the successful research. He said KhadiPrakritik Paint has immense potential of creating sustainable development for benefit of the poorest of the poor and the target should be setting up a Parkritik Paint unit in each and every village.
  • On this occasion, Shri Gadkari also placed an order for 1000 liters of Khadi Prakritik Paint (500 liters each of Distemper and Emulsion) which he intends to use at his residence in Nagpur.
  • The new plant has been set up on the campus of Kumarappa National Handmade Paper Institute (KNHPI), Jaipur, which is a unit of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC). Earlier Prakritik Paint was being manufactured manually on a prototype project. Commissioning of the new manufacturing unit will double the production capacity of Prakritik Paint. At present the daily production of Prakritik Paint is 500 liters which will go up to 1000 liters per day.

  • Verstappen's latest step towards ending Hamilton's hold on the drivers' title triggered a carnival atmosphere in Formula One's first capacity crowd since the coronavirus pandemic struck with most of the 100,000 in attendance decked out in his Dutch orange colours.
