Vice President Confers Pt. Haridutt Sharma Award to Smt. Anurradha Prasad

  • The Vice President of India Shri M. Hamid Ansari conferred the “Pt. Haridutt Sharma Award” in the field of Journalism, Writing and Social Services to Smt. Anurradha Prasad, Editor-in-Chief, News-24 Channel.

  • Addressing on the occasion, the Vice President opined that the Media persons should always do news reporting in an impartial and responsible manner with objectivity. He congratulated Smt. India, China to set up hotline between Army HQs

  • The omnibus communiqué, which emerged after talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his counterpart Li Keqiang at the Great Hall of the People, said a hotline between the two Army Headquarters would be established and additional points along the frontiers would be opened to enable local border commanders to hold crisis-management meetings.

  • Annual exchange visits between the two military headquarters and neighbouring military commands would continue. During talks, Mr. Modi “reiterated the importance of clarification of Line of Actual Control (LAC)”. The Prime Minister said the Chinese leadership was “responsive,” when he suggested that “China should take a strategic and long term view of our relations”.

Google to offer Chromebook for Arunachal schools

  • Google is planning to ink a pact with the Arunachal Pradesh government to run a pilot scheme for deploying Chromebook laptops for school students. Chromebook laptops run on Google’s Chrome operating system and are designed to be used primarily while connected to the Internet with most applications and data residing in the cloud.

  • In Arunachal, the pilot scheme is proposed to be run in schools in two cities Itanagar and Ziro. The company is also in discussion with other States to run similar pilot schemes.

SC bars Glenmark from selling anti-diabetes drugs

  • The Supreme Court restrained Indian firm Glenmark Pharmaceuticals from manufacturing and selling its anti-diabetes drugs Zita and Zita-Met.
  • It further said that “going by the prima facie satisfaction recorded by the High Court, we are of the view that the unfinished formulation of Sitagliptin Phosphate Monohydrate [SPM] which is to be processed in the petitioner’s factory/factories will not be undertaken for the present and until the next date fixed.”
  • The apex court, however, allowed Glenmark Pharmaceuticals to continue selling existing stock of its anti-diabetes drugs Zita and Zita-Met in the market.
  • Earlier Delhi High Court, on March 20, restrained Glenmark from manufacturing, marketing or selling its anti-diabetes drugs, saying it had “prima facie” infringed the patent of U.S. drug major Merck Sharp and Dohme.

Russian Parliament passes a bill to shut ‘undesirable’ NGOs

  • The Russian Parliament gave preliminary approval to legislation that would allow prosecutors to declare foreign and international organisations “undesirable” in Russia and shut them down.
  • The step appeared to be part of a campaign to stifle dissent in Russia that intensified when President Vladimir Putin began his third term in 2012.
  • Laws passed in recent years already have led to increased pressure on Russian non-governmental organisations, particularly those that receive foreign funding. Hundreds of NGOs have been subject to raids and inspections, ostensibly to check their compliance with laws.
